 Abstract:
This study provides an analytical examination of Michel Foucault’s conception of discourse and its relationship to power. Through his analyses of institutional discourse, clinical discourse, and the discourse of madness, Foucault demonstrates that discourse constitutes a system that permeates various social domains and operates through a set of mechanisms closely linked to power. According to Foucault, power employs and regulates discourses in ways that serve its objectives and sustain its influence. Within this framework, media and education represent two significant domains through which power is exercised. Media and educational discourses convey a range of messages through media channels and educational institutions, contributing to the dissemination of ideological orientations and social values endorsed by dominant power structures. The effectiveness of these discourses stems from the close interrelationship between media discourse, political discourse, and educational apparatuses, all of which function within broader networks of power that shape and regulate social institutions. Consequently, discourse becomes a central mechanism through which power influences knowledge, social awareness, and the formation of individual and collective perceptions.
